Word and Spirit Ministries International was started by Pastor Steve Holt as a fellowship of churches that passionately desire to see the name and glory of Jesus Christ spread throughout the whole world. We have a vision of planting 1000 churches that love the power of God’s Word and the power of the Holy Spirit. We believe that the healthiest, most life-giving and effective evangelistic churches are one’s that keep a healthy balance of God’s Word and the Holy Spirit. Word and Spirit Ministries have a growing network of churches and associations in the U.S., mainland Japan, Okinawa, and Uganda.

Many churches have an emphasis on the teaching of God’s Word but rarely if ever mention the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Other churches emphasize the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit but tend to be weak on the verse by verse teaching of the Bible.

Word and Spirit Ministries vision includes a strong and balanced approach to both the exegetical (verse by verse) teaching of God’s Word and the power and ministry of the Holy Spirit. The best model of this kind of church is found in the Acts of the Apostles in the New Testament. In the book of Acts we see the remarkable power of the Spirit that is resulting in changed lives (Acts 1:8). At the same time we see the primary commitment of the early church to the teaching of God’s Word (Acts 2:42).

We believe that a church that emphasizes teaching through the whole Bible will be built on a strong foundation and produce mature disciples. We also believe that the power for growth in the lives of Christ’s disciples is the work of the Holy Spirit released in one’s life. Thus, Word and Spirit Ministries encourages every church to follow both the "C by C, V by V" (chapter by chapter, verse by verse) teaching of the Bible, and the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit.
